Valencia put themselves into the lead against FC Barcelona at the Nou Camp with an eighth minute goal that left the stadium silent. However, as the Catalans got into the match they began to dominate. And once Lionel Messi, on his 200th league appearance, opened Barcelona’s scoring the Catalans proved to be unstoppable. According to TVNZ:
World Player of the Year Messi led the fightback with two goals in five minutes to put them ahead by the 27th minute as Pep Guardiola’s side responded with some irresistible football.
Messi went on to score four goals in total with another from Xavi to end the match 5-1. Barcelona remain 10 points behind Real Madrid, but have opened up their lead over third place Valencia.
